Dedi Mulyadi welcomes Asiad torch in Purwakarta
The chairman of the National Sports Council (KONI) in Purwakarta regency, West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, had the honor of carrying the 2018 Asian Games torch when it arrived in Purwakarta on Friday.
The torch, which was brought over from Ciganea, was handed over to the former Purwakarta regent by a runner on Jl. RE Martadinata Purwakarta.
From there, Dedi took the torch to the Purwakarta regency complex on Jl. Gandanegara, where he was met by loud cheers from a thousand residents who stood alongside the road.
"It [carrying the torch] is an honor for me as a member of society. This torch represents the sporting spirit for the Asian people. I think it also encourages the West Java people to make the Asian Games a successful event," he said.
He said he believed that the 2018 Asian Games would positively impact the economy and tourism.
"The people’s spirit for sports has obviously increased each day. We can feel this impact through the organization of the 2018 Asian Games in the country," Dedi said.
